    Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Counseling

    Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, or OCD, involves having obsessive thinking patterns that can include unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that make a person feel anxious or distressed.

    Individuals who have OCD often have significant distress because of these thoughts. Sometimes those with OCD also have compulsive behaviors which are an attempt to avoid the thought or comfort oneself by performing some sort of action.

    Common signs, according to the Mayo Clinic, of OCD are:

    • Intrusive distressing thoughts or images
    • Repetitive checking
    • Repetitive counting
    • Ritualistic or repetitive cleaning
    • Fear of contamination
    • Hoarding
    • Worries of harming others or oneself
    • Worries about being attracted to children, your sexual orientation, or contracting an illness.
